the history of katerpillar.neocities.org
Okay. I'd like to say something along the lines of, well, "ever since I was a little kid, I dreamed of CODING a WEBSITE. Every time I went to sleep, I saw my destiny... making a WEBSITE with HTML and CSS. Every time I ate breakfast, I imagined sitting there. Eating breakfast. While BUILDING a WEBSITE on NEOCITIES DOT ORG." but I really can't. Instead, I'll write something that isn't much better than that. A whatever-i've-done-thats-relevant-to-coding-and-or-html-and-or-web-development compilation. Amazing.
So, how did you start then?
My first ventures into web development as a whole was on carrd.co. If you don't know what that is, it is a free drag-and-drop website builder that gives you a little subdomain and a limit on how many elements you can place unless you pay forth some money. Although it worked fine, it was heavily restrictive and sometimes wouldn't drop down?? the elements??? where i wanteed them to be?? IDEK. I think I made 4 different alterations of my carrds in total? (Although I can only find 2...)
Here are some examples:
2nd/3rd edition, made in 2023. this one feels so chronically online it hurts
Latest edition. extremely minimalistic.... during the making of this blog post, I have taken it down as I do not see the use of it anymore.
Well, a second attempt at a me-site was on listography, a site where you can. make lists. I found this site when someone (that I barely knew) had it in their discord profile and I liked the aesthetic. My listography is still up as of right now, if you want to see whatever September-October 2023 me was up to then.
If you can't tell, 2023 was A Time to say the least..
Well, after that, I kind of gave up. Until I saw someone's neocities website and I thought. Wow! I want to make that!!!!!!!!! so here we are.
This was the first edition of my site, built entirely in HTML using Bootstrap. Not a very good idea, as it cluttered my code, but it worked. Soon, I had an about page, a gallery, and a home page finished.
Why change to the new layout?
Since it was ugly of course! so now you see the beautiful home page on the site today. Originally, all pages were going to be in the same white-black-pink layout, but I found that quite restrictive.
